The project DB-Heritage (DataBase of building materials with historical and heritage interest- PTDC/EPH-PAT/4684/2014) brings forward the information and historical value of the constituent materials as a strategy of research and development.
The characterization of the materials and of their conservation state are fundamental steps for the elaboration of recommendations regarding the intervention plan and the materials and techniques to be applied in conservation and restoration interventions, in particular the historical and architectural heritage.
There is a large amount of scattered information about the physical, chemical and mechanical characterization of materials, and on their forms of decay and conservation needs.
Documenting and preserving materials data is important both to fulfill researcher’s needs and to obtain social benefits concerning the related educational and historical value.
